A bouncy, music-hall type song with a reggae-like bridge. The tuba, clarinets, and congas were all played on a keyboard.

Modern music with a retro sound. Strongly influenced by the great bands of the 60s and early 70s.
I have been writing and recording songs since 1969! Now I dispense cheap advice on Songwriting, Home Recording, and Live Sound on my website, . For my earliest recordings, my brother and I used two reel-to-reel tape decks, building up our songs by copying back and forth between them. The gear has improved over the years, and I am now using an 8-track Yamaha MD8 digital recorder in my hobby studio. I also own an on-location recording company, and for that I use a 16-track Korg D16XD.

Story behind the song
This tune is part of a concept album whose songs are based on events in the life of Robert Louis Stevenson. This one is about Stevenson's 1880 honeymoon with his wife Fanny, spent at an abandoned mine in the hills above Monterey, California. The bridge has a whole different sound in order to express the difference between how excited they were to be there (very) and what it was really like (not so hot). Many of the lyrics, especially in the bridges, are taken directly from Stevenson's letters and other writings of the time. Mark Bendig: all parts
