Story behind the song
A little night music for Halloween 14, but in my typical style there's a twist and a bit of subversion going on too. We are taught to be wary of, and even fear, strangers; and "stranger" can soon turn into a name for anyone who doesn't belong to our little group. Outsiders. Those who are different from us. Not ... normal. Weirdos. I'm not a big fan of the trick-or-treat pageant stuff, but I think the underlying reasoning behind having a Halloween festival is probably to help us to face fears - dressing up as frightening or dangerous characters reduces their power over us and helps us cope with potentially fearful encounters. So this song is written from the perspective of those we have marginalised, symbolising Halloween as the one night of the year when they could be accepted and even celebrated, perhaps looking forward to a more enlightened future where diversity is seen as a positive thing by society, instead of a tool to exclude and divide. Just because you tend to turn into a wolf and, er, eat people when there's a full moon shouldn't be used as an excuse to bar you from the golf club.

Excellent concept, brilliantly written - on the surface a fantastic Halloween song, look deeper and this song has a lot to say about our perceptions. As a paid up member of the Weirdos Club, I love this song, lol!
