Story behind the song
Well, one day I was remembering the story about Robert Johnson selling his soul to the Devil at the Crossroads, to be a great guitar player and I decided to write a song about it. It ended up being about a guy writing a blues song but his girl friend liked Country and Rock and Roll, so I decided to call it "Mix it Up at the Crossroad". I did the band track and the Vocal and my good friend Jay Ramsey did all the fine Guitar Work for me.
Lyrics
Mix it up at the Crossroads I had a music problem at the Crossroads I’m not talkin’ about sellin’ my soul I wrote a guitar blues for my baby but She’s countryfied and loves Rock and Roll She said, We could meet in the middle If I’d change it up a little A compromise was my main goal. Mix it up at the Crossroads Mix it up at the Crossroads Now the country music starts in the East and then slowly moves into the West. While the Blues comes from the South and heads straight North for the optimum test. There’s a Rock & Roll beat and it’s easy to see it cuts thru the Middle with the greatest of ease A conjugatin’ visit with some Country, Rock & Blues mixed together they’ll make front page news. Mix it up at the Crossroads Mix it up at the Crossroads Guitar Break like intro I solved my music problem at the Crossroads and I didn’t have to sell my soul I kept the Guitar Blues for my Baby but, I included country and Rock and Roll. Now we met in the middle Cause I changed it up a little the compromise just added some soul Mix it up at the Crossroads Mix it up at the Crossroads Guitar Solo to Verse A conjugatin’ visit with some Country, Rock & Blues mixed together they’ll make front page news. I solved my problem at the Crossroads and I didn’t have to sell my soul I kept the Guitar Blues for my Baby but, I included country and Rock and Roll.
